"Clear to Me" gallery show

I stumbled across an ad for an open call for artists on my instagram timeline and it happened to be for a little art gallery right across the street from my "day" job.

The call was for a show titled "Clear to Me" that featured works where you could see through the subjects. This prompt was open for a lot of interpretation but it struck me that it fit the subject of a painting I had recently finished.

"Good Morning"is an 18"x24" watercolor portrait of a young woman enjoying a morning tea or coffee as she looks out the window. The part that called me to paint this, and the part that fit the prompt for the open call, was the woman's figure being softly visible through her gown. I challenged myself to be able to depict it truthfully and I feel like I succeeded.

So, I submitted the piece for the open call and it was accepted. Ive had work displayed in a cafe before but never in a gallery, so this was very exciting.

I wasnt able to attend the opening (my "day" job is bartender, so I actually work nights and weekends and it was on a Saturday night), but he curators told me it received a lot of attention both at the opening and over the next couple weeks that it was displayed.

It didnt end up selling at the gallery, but when I went over to take it down to make room for the next show, I brought it back over to where I work and when the owner of the restaurant saw it, she offered to buy it. She has pretty excellent taste so I was very honored.
